Duke is a handsome, large, entire male GSD and just over 1 year old. Black & tan, short coat, straight-back GSD. Vaccinated & microchipped. Based in Devon.
We will be prioritising homes in the South West region but will consider out-of-area applications in exceptional circumstances for the right home, which is the priority for this super boy. He is available for adoption having now returned from his foster home where he has lived with a family with another dog and older children.
A fantastic opportunity for someone, the magnificent Duke is a handsome, big, strong, young shepherd male with much potential in the right home. His training will need to continue, and he would be well suited to an active owner interested in dog sports.
He has some training with his original owners and with his foster carers, where he was very responsive to training and focused, but this needs to be continued. He enjoys treats and toys & loves to search & play tug. He needs an experienced owner to continue his education as he goes into adolescence, and he is a big lad weighing 42 kg!
He is good with people but can be overly friendly and exuberant. He travels well, and he is fully housetrained and crate trained.
Around other dogs he is good, and he has lived with another dog at his short-term foster, and they got on very well. Out and about he does need to be managed due to his size & exuberance, and he can exhibit frustration-based behavior and be vocal, so this is an area that will need work. He does respond to his handler and has been walked in a headcollar. He is exercised off-lead in quiet areas and has good recall. NOT suitable to live with cats.
We are looking for an experienced active adult-only home or one with dog-savvy older children. Duke could be an only dog or live with a mature, trained, calm dog, but this would need careful consideration & introduction.
A sad rehoming by his original owners, only done after much consideration and heartache due to a change in circumstances and felt to be in the best interests of Duke, whose needs can no longer be met.
You would need to be prepared to travel to do meets with Duke in the South Devon area. A home check will be required and an adoption fee will be payable, plus a spay/neuter agreement will apply.
